Interstate-19 East Frontage Rd: Canoa to Continental

Interstate-19 East Frontage Rd: Canoa to Continental

This project included the construction of 4.5-miles of a two-lane frontage road along Interstate-19 (I-19) between Canoa Road and Continental Road in Green Valley, Arizona.

Major improvements included new frontage road bridge structures and an innovative braided ramp at the Continental Road interchange to create a single intersection of northbound I-19 access-ramps, I-19 frontage road, and Continental Road.

The use of micropiles allowed Continental Road to be widened under the existing I-19 bridge while not adversely impacting and the existing structure and and/or traffic flows.  Using a phased construction approach, the existing slope pavement was removed and replaced with concrete retaining walls.
