Mountain Ave Phase 2
Full reconstruction of one mile of Mountain Avenue from Grant Road to Ft. Lowell Road. Borderland’s skills were put to the test while installing new sewer under existing low hanging overhead power lines, weaving the new lines under and parallel to existing utilities. It was necessary to suspend in the air existing utilities by strapping them to support I-beams while crossing under them.

The Tucson Department of Transportation initiated the Mountain Avenue Demonstration Project in the late 1980s to guide the improvement of Mountain Avenue from Speedway Boulevard to Roger Road, and replace a roadside drainage ditch with a 78-inch drainage pipe underground from Speedway to the Rillito River.
